| Description |
Perform general grounds maintenance.
Common duties include:
- Mowing, edging, trimming, and maintaining lawns
- Operating lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, and other landscaping equipment
- Planting, pruning, and caring for trees, shrubs, flowers, and other landscaping
- Removing weeds, leaves, trash, and debris from school grounds
- Maintaining and repairing irrigation systems and sprinkler equipment
- Watering grass, plants, and athletic fields
- Maintaining athletic fields, playgrounds, sidewalks, and outdoor areas
- Applying fertilizer, seed, and approved lawn treatments
- Trimming trees and removing fallen branches
- Performing minor repairs to fences, gates, benches, and outdoor equipment
- Keeping grounds clean, safe, and presentable for students and staff
- Setting up and taking down outdoor equipment for school events and activities
- Operating trucks, trailers, tractors, and other grounds-maintenance equipment
- Following safety procedures and properly storing tools and chemicals
- Reporting damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or maintenance needs to a supervisor
Typical physical requirements: working outdoors in heat, cold, and rain; standing and walking for extended periods; lifting and carrying equipment/materials; and performing repetitive bending, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
Education/Certification
Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement.
Texas air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license or technician certification or be willing to get certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
- Ability to operate hand and power tools
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to visually inspect and service vehicles
- Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in servicing vehicles
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and the ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and physical exam
- Ability to operate bus or vehicle
- Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
- Knowledge of automotive mechanics and diesel and fuel engine maintenance and repair
- Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
